Crossmedia treasure

by Federico Fasce on 2 July 2009

I’ve just posted a reflection on the possibility, for digital games, to break the boundaries of the console itself and open up to a whole ecosystem, that someone at Aspyr published Treasure World.

In this cute, little, Animal Crossing-like game, you play the role of a treasure hunter, which searches comets to find treasures. The game is for Nintendo DS, and it should be out now in USA.

But, as Offworld points out, the game itself lies out of the plastic and silicon. Your little treasure hunter alter-ego catches stars that are determined by WiFi hotspot that you can find in town. The objects you get can be exchanged between players, used to change the looking of your avatar or arranged in a garden. Which is a chiptune sequencer also, and it can be accessed from a dedicated website.

An experience that travels in a clever way through different platform. Can’t wait to try it.

[Oh, and don't forget to take a look at the trailer on the website. It can't be embedded and this is too bad]

Look interesting.

I think that game with this kind of elements (like treasure hunt) will make the difference in mobile gaming.

iPhone with Camera, GPS, WiFi e bluetooth look like the perfect platform to experiment with.

And I already got some ideas

I’m still convinced that there’s a lot to explore in mobile gaming. It’s time to stop trying to port classic games on mobile platform, and to start thinking how these platform could be used in an interactive way.
